Stephen Ministries

Stephen MinistriesStephen Ministries is a one-to-one lay caring ministry that equips and empowers lay caregivers—called Stephen Ministers—to provide high-quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to people who are hurting, either physically or emotionally.

Stephen Ministers receive 50 hours of training prior to being installed as Stephen Ministers and being assigned a “care receiver.”  They also attend twice monthly supervisory meetings for peer support and to discuss any concerns that may arise in their care giving relationship. Training classes for new Stephen Ministers are offered periodically as people express interest or as the need arises. A Care Receiver requesting a Stephen Minister is assigned a Stephen Minister based on availability and an appropriate match.  Male Stephen Ministers are only matched with male Care Receivers, and female Stephen Ministers are only matched with female Care Receivers.

The current Stephen Leader Team is Cathy Ricci and Connie Degn. This team offers training classes for new Stephen Ministers and matches Care Receivers with Stephen Ministers.

If you are interested in becoming a Stephen Minister, would like a Stephen Minister, or know someone who might benefit by having a Stephen Minister, contact the church office; office@oslcslc.org or 801-278-1412. A member of the Stephen Leader Team will then be in touch with you.
